Saturn Retrograde: What You Need To Know

Get ready for another sharp turn and dive in the great rollercoaster year of 2021. Oh sure, we have Mercury retrograde at the end of the month, but first we have Saturn making it's station on May 23rd, followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse (stay tuned for more info on the eclipse).

What does this mean for you?

Take a look at the world right now, actually take a look at your world. What's going on? What isn't going on? How are you feeling on the inside? Are you feeling stuck, lost or ill at ease? Or are you feeling like you're on the edge of your seat waiting for something that you can't quite describe to happen? Any and all of those feelings (or your specific feelings for that matter) are valid. The energy is building up the way rollercoaster cars climb up steep before hitting a straight away before the curve, before the dip. However you're interpreting the energy of the moment, just know you're feeling all of the potential energy building before the next "push" as we collectively move forward on our human journey.

Saturn is the planet of structure, crystallization, consequence, authority, there are those who describe Saturn as "Karma", but they leave the term undefined. To some Karma means punishment, I'm not a fan of crime and punishment dogma. I prefer to think of it as consequences and results, I can't believe that an infinite universe is so petty as to have a set up of "Oh you had an affair in your past life so you're going to be in a shitty relationship with Bob in the next one." That makes no logical sense in the least. However, it does make sense that if you come from a family whose origins include experiencing famine and war (and other trauma) that ideals, behaviors, beliefs and patterns will be part of your "karma" to overcome as you individuate and self actualize. It's not a punishment, it's the consequence or result of your family having experienced trauma. Seeing "karma" through that lens, just makes more sense to me.

Saturn rules "Karma" as much as it rules authority and structure, after all if a structure or authority is faulty, eventually it will fail. It takes time to fail (another thing Saturn rules) but it eventually it fails. With Saturn stationing retrograde we will see a lot of what will and must fail both on the international, national and local stages. As much as the "systems" are trying to "hold it together" and try to signal that we're on our way "back to normal" it's going to be evident we're not ever going back to what was... for good reason, it didn't work to start with... Yes, restrictions will be lifted, and what sign is Saturn in? Aquarius. When Saturn is direct it has a Capricorn flavor (regardless of the sign it is traveling through) and when Saturn is retrograde it has an Aquarian flavor. Saturn is currently in Aquarius, so the chains are off, structural chaos, people power, resistance and authorities will be stretched. Saturn retrograde will move back into a square with Uranus in Taurus for the second time on June 14, four days after the Solar Eclipse. There's going to be a whole lot of shaking going on, there will be conflict, it's not going to be a surprise to anyone paying attention but it will be bringing chickens home to roost (consequences).

Things to watch out for: More supply chain disruptions, monetary policy changes, big infrastructure failures, increased conflicts, a big fire season, political upheaval and popular uprisings including more strikes and workers rights issues, communication disruptions and technology snafus, more hackings and more nefarious activities coming to light.

On a personal level look to the house(s) where Aquarius resides in your chart, especially 13 degrees Aquarius (where Saturn is right now), it's that area of life put into focus during the retrograde period. It's where you can choose to reprogram your own patterns holding your back in life.
